Maia Woolner
(she/her),
PhD, MACP Candidate, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Therapist in Training
Having studied and taught history and philosophy for over a decade before becoming a therapist, I bring a deep curiosity about human experience to my clinical work. I help clients make sense of their pasts and patterns, examine their values and desires, and find meaning in the highs, lows, and “in-betweens” of life. My aim is to create a space where you can slow down, ask hard questions, and explore more fully who you are—beyond external expectations or pressures. Whether you are seeking greater connection, clarity, or direction -- or simply a place to think and feel more deeply -- I strive to support you in a way that is holistic and attuned to you.
I welcome everyone into my practice. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, humanistic, and shaped by your individual needs and preferences. I work primarily from existential, psychodynamic, and narrative perspectives, while integrating other strategies as needed.
My background allows me to support individuals with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, life transitions, family dynamics, perfectionism, cross-cultural identities and moves, in/fertility, chronic illness or health concerns, existential fears, grief and loss, and stress related to creative practice, work, or academics. I also support couples with relationship issues including communication, boundaries, life transitions, navigating family dynamics, fertility and reproductive health, parenting, and relationship repair after rupture, loss, or adultery.
Alongside my current psychotherapy training (MACP), I hold a PhD in the history of psychology and psychiatry from UCLA and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge. My work in the medical humanities continues to inform how I practice—rooting our conversations in an awareness of the cultural and historical narratives that influence how we understand ourselves, our relationships, and our mental health.
It would be a privilege to work with you.
