Nicky Deeb (She/They)
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), MA

My name is Nicky (she/they) and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and I am currently accepting new clients. My goal as a therapist is to provide a relationship with each client that gives space to explore the impact of external stories and your internal worlds.

I work mostly with neurodivergent individuals – people who self-identify as Autistic, ADHD, gifted, highly sensitive etc. – with interest in navigating the harmful impact of dominant social norms.

I view all clients as experts of their own experience and during sessions this is evident in that I will not be providing any analysis or contributions outside of what you bring to share. My role will be to listen to your stories and emotions, ask clarifying questions, reflect back to you what I am hearing, and ask questions about meaning.

My approaches are borrowed from Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Mindfulness and Religion, with some influence from CBT and Art Therapy.

I am excited to be running two groups this winter, one for ND adults with the focus of ambiguous grief and one for people who have given birth in the past 9 months or have not yet had the chance to share their birth story. For both groups I have free 20-minute consults available to answer any questions, discuss concerns of group therapy, and gauge the fit for the group.

I intend to take an extended pregnancy leave beginning in April 2023 without a firm date of when I will return. This is important to consider when choosing a therapist as continuity and access to care is often an important aspect to the relationship.

What draws me to working with other ND people is that I am constantly exploring my own ND traits finding overlap in my previously labelled “giftedness” with my understanding of ADHD and Autism. I have found working with ND clients alleviates some of the double-empathy burden.

I also work with neurotypical people. As an example, beyond navigating the NT world, I am also navigating the parenting world and this common experience allows for strong connections of understanding to be made between me and clients who are interested in discussing this aspect of themselves. For some, this may specifically extend to parenting their inner child.

Nicky is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with experience in Autism, teaching, and Crisis Response. They are on parental leave from Kids Help Phone where they work as a Teaching Assistant, training Crisis Responders for the Crisis Text Line. She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University.
