Lorraine Hewitt
(She/her) MSW, RSW
Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist
I am a registered social worker and psychotherapist with an extensive background in sex education, anti-oppressive empowerment, and community engagement. I work primarily with women and couples who are struggling with relationship difficulties, sexual concerns, racial identity, self-esteem issues, and disordered eating. I am currently accepting new clients.
As we move through life, there can be so many stories that are left untold. Sometimes it can feel like there is no right time or space to just breathe, slow down and gain a better understanding of our lives and experiences. My goal, as a therapist, is to offer a safe container to allow for your thoughts, feelings and questions to be shared, listened to and validated. I am committed to supporting you, as we bring what is hidden to light and move towards a more authentic life, based on your needs and values.
I offer emotion-focused and narrative talk therapy; integrated nervous-system support through somatic and mindfulness techniques; as well as solution-focused sex therapy. My 20-year background in adult sex education, and my experience supporting people with eating disorders have given me the skills to address deeply personal topics with a client-centred, compassionate and non-judgemental approach. The processes of discovery and change can be difficult. As your therapist I will affirm your emotions and experiences, while challenging you to move toward new perspectives and actions that support your personal goals.
As a fellow human in the world, I also understand that navigating social and cultural expectations, while holding space for your own unique responses and desires can feel confusing and isolating. I value a wholistic, trauma-informed approach to therapy that considers cultural background and social expectations along with your personal history, goals and concerns. Together, we will seek to understand what you've learned, and unlearned, throughout your life, and how this may have affected your thoughts, feelings, responses and behaviours.
I believe that change and healing are always possible. I’m ready to walk with you on your journey, as we build on your strengths, uncover your resources and grow your resilience. Let’s take the first steps together.
Lorraine holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Toronto Metropolitan University, and a diploma in Social Service Work from George Brown College. She is a Registered Social Worker in Ontario and a member in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
Lorraine works with clients from diverse populations and backgrounds including members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other sexual minority groups, as well as racialized and neuro-diverse individuals and couples.
